Two Nevada Dusters Win Gold Gloves
First baseman Vic Power was awarded the fifth Gold Glove of his career, finishing the year with a .997 fielding percentage in 142 games. Power had 128 assists and participated in 91 double plays while committing just four errors on the year in 1,194 innings. Power had previously won the award in 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1961. Starting pitcher Joe Horlen won the first Gold Glove of his career, finishing the 1962 season with a .980 fielding percentage. He had 24 assists, 26 putouts and was involved in seven double plays while committing just one error in 240 innings. [Horlen's ratings: Defense 93, Hitting 63, Health 72.]
The other National League Gold Glove recipients for 1962 were Joe Torre (c-PIT), Bill Mazeroski (2b-PIT), Brooks Robinson (3b-CHC), Leo Cardenas (ss-CIN), Bob Skinner (lf-PIT), Willie Mays (cf-SFG) and Hank Aaron (rf-CHC).
