Nevada Dusters (81-51) @ New York Mets (52-80)
September 8-10, 1962
Polo Grounds, New York, NY

DL:  Roger Repoz (CF-Montana Wolves), broken ankle, 59 days.

New York Mets Game 1 starting lineup:
Sammy Drake (RF), Felix Mantilla (SS), Ed Bouchee (1B), Frank Thomas (LF), Joe Hickman (CF), Don Zimmer (2B), Harry Chiti (C), Bobby Pfeil (3B), Jim Archer (SP)

[September 8, Game 1]
The injury-riddled Mets, without the services of starting pitchers Jay Hook and Larry Foss as well as outfielders Richie Ashburn and John DeMerit, played host to a Duster team with red-hot bats, and none were hotter than lead-off man Vic Power, who was 6-for-6 on the day with four runs and four RBIs. Power tripled and scored in the 1st, singled and scored in the 2nd and hit an RBI double in the 3rd to give Nevada a 3-1 lead. The Dusters added a run in the 4th and the 5th against Mets starter Jim Archer (4-4), and blew the game wide open in the 7th facing reliever Clem Labine. Power hit a two-run double and later scored when Mets catcher Harry Chiti allowed a passed ball. Hector Lopez hammered a solo home run before the inning was over, making it 9-2, and many of the 56,000 on hand at the Polo Grounds began to depart. Another RBI double by Power -- his third two-bagger of the day -- and a two-run double by Lopez in the 9th made it a 12-2 drubbing as the Dusters collected eighteen hits to seven for the home team. Nevada starter Pete Richert improved to 6-4 as he allowed one run on four hits while striking out four in five innings. Lopez finished 3-for-5 with five ribbies, Clete Boyer 3-for-6 with three RBIs.
Lineup: Power, Lopez, Williams, Boyer, Blanchard, Adair, Schaive, Tresh, Richert
Record: 82-51
Dusters 12, Mets 2
[September 9, Game 2]
Nevada starter Bob Shaw pitched just five innings, but it wasn't because he didn't pitch well, because in those five innings he allowed just one run on two hits while walking three and striking out three. The problem was that after collecting a pair of runs in the 1st, the Dusters could make no further headway against Mets starter Jim Archer, and after an error by Hector Lopez allowed a New York run to score in the 4th, cutting the Duster lead in half, Ben Naylor pinch hit for Shaw in the top of the 6th, two out and two on, hoping to expand the lead. The strategy failed, and in the Mets 7th, with reliever Bob Duliba on the mound, Ed Bouchee tied the game with an RBI double. The Dusters left a man stranded at third in the 8th, but finally regained the lead in the 9th, which Vic Power opened with a double. Lopez singled, Williams drove in Power, and Lopez tagged up and scored on a Clete Boyer sac fly to deep center field, making it 4-2. Claude Raymond allowed a run in the bome 9th but held on to get the win, improving his record to 6-1. Billy Williams went 4-for-5 on the day, lifting his average to a team-leading .325, while Boyer and second baseman Johnny Schaive both went 3-for-4.
Lineup: Power, Lopez, Williams, Boyer, Adair, Schaive, Tresh, Carreon, Shaw
Record: 83-51
Dusters 4, Mets 2
[September 10, Game 3]
Another sellout crowd of 56,000 was on hand at the Polo Grounds, hoping to see their Mets avoid being swept by the visiting Dusters. Those hopes rested on a 19-year-old rookie southpaw named Jerry Koosman (3-6), facing Nevada starter Tony Cloninger (11-7) who, according to Conn Hudson, seemed to be pitching better with every start. This start was no exception -- Cloninger allowed five hits scattered through eight innings, striking out seven in the process. The closest the Mets came to scoring in the early going was two-out triple by Jim Hickman in the 4th. Then, in the 6th, an error by Nevada shortstop Jerry Adair and a walk to Hickman loaded the bases for New York with two outs; Cloninger struck out Don Zimmer to end the threat. Meanwhile the Dusters scored a 2nd inning run on a wild pitch by Koosman, and in the 3rd Koosman walked the first two batters on his way to a bases-loaded jam which produced three more Nevada runs on three hits, all of them singles. Cloninger collected his twelfth win, Koosman lasted five innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Lou Johnson and Mack Jones got rare starts in the outfield as Ben Naylor rested Billy Williams and Lee Maye. Both teams committed two errors, and Nails chastised his players after the game, reminding them that they were in the thick of a pennant race and that "every game, every at-bat, every out, is important." Vic Power finished the series with four doubles, a triple, six runs scored,  and four RBIs.
