Houston Colt .45's Game 1 starting lineup:
Johnny Weekly (lf), Walt Williams (rf), Joe Morgan (2b), Jimmy Wynn (cf), Bob Aspromonte (3b), Dave Roberts (1b), Merritt Ranew (c), J.C. Hartman (ss), Bob Bruce (sp)
Game 1, June 3
In Ben Naylor's opinion, Joe Horlen -- who had been plagued by inconsistency all year long -- pitched his best game of the season thus far when he held the Colt .45's to a single hit in his first complete game victory. Trailing 2-0 going into the 6th, Houston starter Bob Bruce walked a pair before serving up a three-run homer to Johnny Blanchard. At that point Nails could have turned the game over to the bullpen but, as he explained to Conn Hudson, Horlen wanted to see it through to the end, and the Nevada skipper thought it would be a confidence-builder. In the 7th Billy Williams tripled in a run and then scored on a Tom Tresh sac fly, and in the 8th Houston reliever Bobby Tiefenauer walked in another Duster run to make it 8-0, the final score. Horlen improved to 5-0, while Blanchard finished up 4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI.
Lineup: Wills, Power, Maye, Williams, Tresh, Boyer, Blanchard, Adair, Horlen
Record: 43-9
Dusters 8, Colt .45's 0
Game 2, June 4
Tony Cloninger sought his eighth win of 1963 in this start, but the Colt .45's had other ideas. Houston scored a run in the 1st, Nevada tied it up in the 2nd thanks to Ken Hubbs' RBI triple. The Colt '45's scored a run to retake the lead in the 4th, and the Dusters tied the game again in the 5th. In the 8th Houston outfielder Jimmy Wynn doubled and scored on a Walt Williams single and Nevada trailed 3-2 and in the 9th Ken Aspromonte reached second on a rare fielding error by Billy Williams in left, was bunted over to third, and scored on a suicide squeeze to put Houston on top 4-2. With Turk Farrell on the mound for Houston, the Dusters went quietly in the 9th. Cloninger (7-3), allowed four runs (three of them earned) on eight hits in his eight innings of work and the Dusters were held to just five hits by George Brunet, Jim Dickson and Farrell.
Lineup: Wills, Power, Oliva, Williams, Tresh, Lopez, Carreon, Hubbs, Cloninger
Record; 43-10
Colt .45's 4, Dusters 2

Game 3, June 5
Jor Horlen had dominated the Houston lineup in the first game of the series, and Dave McNally did likewise in the last game, going the whole nine while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out four in the process. Naylor turned in the same card as yesterday, with rookie Tony Oliva spelling Lee Maye in right and Ken Hubbs playing second in lieu of an ailing Jerry Adair. Hubbs hit an RBI double in the 2nd, right before McNally contributed a two-run single. The Dusters combined four singles and stolen bases by Maury Wills and Vic Power to tack on three more in the 5th, and in the 8th Wills reached on a Houston error, McNally got another single, and Vic Power's scorcher through the right side scored a pair to make it 8-1. Every Duster in the lineup save for Wills got at least one hit, with Power going 3-for-5 and McNally 2-for-4. Nevada remained in the lead in the NL. 10.5 games up on the second-place Cardinals as they packed their bags and headed for Wrigleyville for a series with the Cubs.
Lineup: Wills, Power, Oliva, Williams, Tresh, Lopez, Carreon, Hubbs, McNally
Record: 44-10
